This resource enables students to make comparisons between the different ways of measuring earthquakes: the Mercalli scale and the Richter scale. It is a classroom based practical lesson asking students to attempt to classify the Mercalli magnitude and Richter scale of an earthquake from short video clips. The activity is ideal for higher level KS3 students or KS4 classes as it requires knowledge and understanding of the two scales.
